There's a Flood Down in Texas

There's a flood down in Texas.

A flood of emotions that break the levy.

Water's washing over from the south,

Tidal waves crashing from the west coast.

For too long now, in my little canoe, I've fought them both.

I'm so ready to capsize and give in to the flood.

I'm so ready to bleed it dry and fill the water with my blood.

There's no billage pump that's gonna make this dry,

There's no bucket to hold it all and I don't know why.

Peace be with you so they say,

Do what He asks and you'll find your way.

But if peace is not with me,

And confusion is all I find,

Why ask for what I need,

It's all for not, and the gears slowly grind.

If I could listen to those,

Who've navigated this sea,

I'd hear what was best,

Advice that's best for me.

But it's hard to hear when there's water in your ears,

It's hard to listen when you're concentrated on your fears.

You get used to the depth,

You get used to the force.

You get used to the despair,

You get used to the remorse.

It becomes a part of your soul,

And the clouds only bring more.

I take a breath and dive right in,

I'll continue to tread water, until this all ends...
